Research papers have never been my favorite genre of writing. I've always felt they came attached with too many rules and formats. Sometimes they get so overwhelming that its easier to just submit to the rules and follow the format. The last time I completed a research paper i believe was five years ago and I can't even remember the topic. I was so uninvolved and just put something together to pass. However, the time before that was 13 years ago when I was a senior in high school for my senior exit project. That one I remember, It was on how fashion in America evolved based on wars and conflicts in America. I remember being excited about my topic but annoyed that I had to take countless trips to the library, pay to print out massive content that wasn't listed in books at the time, citing references, and all of the rules I had to follow to properly complete the paper.
Fast forward to today. I perked up at the thought of having to do another research project because I already proved to myself that this is something I can do. I also seemed to have forgot all the pain the past projects caused me and I'm not shocked that this project has been just as painful, if not worst. Only because I thought it would be easy! I based my project off of a film I watched in class called Miss Representation.
I started my research on one topic only to do majority of my research on a completely different topic. I had two papers going on at once and didn't even notice. Finally, I was able to find my wave and Genre. I decided to stick with my initial topic on how a one week social media detox would impact my well-being. I decided to explore that question through actually doing the study as research. I thought It would be pretty simple but I have learned it's not. I didn't die during this study, although I randomly missed getting on social media deeply. I have also had a re-crash course in self discipline, restraint and reconnecting more with the things and people that matter most to me. I have also decided to use my rendition of Participatory Journalism to construct this project.
Here I will post my Drafts of my research project:
